An AI visibility tool asks ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini and Google's AI answers the questions your buyers ask, then shows whether your brand is named, cited or skipped. In 2026 there are dozens of them. Most look alike on the homepage and differ on three things: which engines they track, how many questions you get for the money and what they help you fix.
I work on AI visibility for B2B SaaS, and I built a free tool for it, so I went through the 11 tools buyers ask about most the way a buyer would: homepage, product pages and pricing page, on 20 October 2026. They're ordered by how widely they're used, with our own free check last.
I work at Fourward, which publishes this guide. One entry is ours: the free AI visibility check, listed last. Every other fact links to that company's own website, checked on 20 October 2026. No vendor paid to be included or knew I was writing this.
- AI visibility tools come in four kinds: SEO suite add-ons, dedicated trackers, platforms that also act on the data and free checks.
- Monthly-billed entry prices run from $29 (Otterly.AI) to $295 (AthenaHQ Starter). AthenaHQ also has a free plan, and Profound shows no paid price for brands.
- The number of questions you can track varies more than price. For about $100 a month you get 25 prompts on Semrush, 50 on Peec AI, 200 on SE Visible and 500 on LLMrefs.
- A tool shows whether AI names you. It doesn't make AI name you. That still takes crawler access, structured data, pages worth citing and mentions on other sites, as our GEO guide for B2B SaaS explains.
What an AI visibility tool does
Search tools tell you where a page ranks for a keyword. AI answers don't have ranks in the same way, so these tools work differently. You give the tool a list of prompts, the questions a buyer might type, such as "best payroll software for startups". The tool asks each AI engine those prompts on a schedule, saves every answer and counts what it finds.
Most tools report the same handful of numbers:
- Mention rateHow often your brand appears in the answers, out of all the prompts tracked.
- Share of voiceYour mentions compared with your competitors' mentions for the same prompts.
- CitationsWhich pages, yours or other sites', the AI linked to as its sources.
- Position and sentimentWhether you're named first or last, and whether the AI describes you well or badly.
Citations are the most useful of the four. They show which sites AI engines trust for your category, which tells you where you need to be mentioned.
Pick your prompts before you pick a tool. The numbers only mean something if the prompts match what your buyers actually ask.
Four kinds of AI visibility tool
If you're weighing one tool against another, our Profound alternatives and Peec AI alternatives guides go deeper on each. The 11 tools below fall into four groups. Knowing which group you need cuts the list fast.

Best before you pay for tracking.Fourward checkAhrefs checkerHow I picked and ranked them
I started from the tools that come up most when people search for AI visibility tools and ask AI engines for them, then kept the ones with a public product page and a clear way to start. For each one I checked four things on its own site: the engines it tracks, what the entry plan includes, what it does beyond tracking and whether you can try it free. I didn't create accounts or run paid tests, so nothing here claims hands-on results.
The order follows how widely each tool is used and how complete it is. Our own check goes last because it does something different: it doesn't track prompts over time.

1. Profound
Best for Enterprise marketing teams that want tracking, prompt demand data and agents in one platform.
Profound is the best-known enterprise name in the category. It calls itself the AI platform to power your marketing: tracking across answer engines, an AI Marketer and agents that draft and stage work, Agent Analytics for AI crawler visits, and Prompt Volumes, which estimates what people ask AI engines.
- EnginesThe trial covers ChatGPT, Gemini and Google AI Overviews. Enterprise covers up to 9 answer engines. Pricing page
- Beyond trackingAgents and an AI Marketer for content work, Agent Analytics and Prompt Volumes.
- PricingFor brands: a free 7-day trial with 50 prompts, run daily, then a custom Enterprise plan. No paid self-serve price is shown.
- Who it suitsAEO, content and PR teams, agencies and enterprises, with SOC 2 and 200+ integrations.
My take The most complete platform in this list, and the hardest to price before a call. Worth it when several teams will use it and you need enterprise controls.
2. Semrush AI Visibility Toolkit
Best for Teams already on Semrush that want AI tracking next to their SEO data.
Semrush's AI Visibility Toolkit tracks how a business is mentioned in AI search. Because it sits inside the Semrush suite, prompt tracking, keyword data, competitor research and site audits share one login.
- EnginesMentions from ChatGPT, Google AI, Gemini and Perplexity.
- Beyond trackingCompetitor analysis, prompt research and a site audit for AI readiness.
- Pricing$99 a month per domain, billed annually, with 25 custom prompts and daily rankings. Extra users from $45 a month.
- Free optionSemrush's general 7-day free trial.
My take The easy pick if Semrush is already open all day. 25 prompts covers a short list of buying questions, not a whole category.
3. Ahrefs Brand Radar
Best for Researching how any brand, yours or a competitor's, shows up in AI answers.
Brand Radar lets you see any brand's AI visibility. Most tools only check the prompts you enter. Brand Radar starts from an index of 492 million prompts, so you can size up a market before writing any prompts of your own.
- EnginesThe index covers AI Overviews, AI Mode, ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini and Copilot. Claude is available too, and on custom prompts it uses 8 checks per update.
- Beyond trackingCited pages and domains, search demand, fan-out queries, and Reddit, YouTube and TikTok sources.
- PricingCustom prompts start at $50 a month for 150 checks and 5 prompts, and are included with paid Ahrefs plans from Lite. The AI Visibility Index is $199 a month, or $699 for all models.
- Free optionA free AI visibility checker with a limited preview.
My take The best tool here for research across a whole market. Ahrefs says the index works best once your brand already appears in AI answers, so newer brands should start with custom prompts.
4. Peec AI
Best for Marketing teams that want simple plans, unlimited users and daily tracking.
Peec AI is AI search analytics for marketing teams. It tracks visibility, position and sentiment against your competitors every day, and says it's used by more than 3,500 brands and agencies. Its pricing is one of the easiest to read in the category.
- EnginesEach self-serve plan covers 3 models you pick from ChatGPT, AI Mode, AI Overviews, Copilot, Gemini and Naver AI. Perplexity and extra models are add-ons, from $30 a month per model on Starter. Pricing page
- Beyond trackingGap analysis, ranked recommended actions, a Peec agent with custom skills, and a crawlability audit across 40+ bots. Enterprise tracks up to 13 models.
- PricingStarter $95 a month for 50 prompts, Pro $245 for 150, Advanced $495 for 350, or $80, $205 and $420 a month billed yearly. Unlimited users on every plan.
- Free optionA free trial, with no credit card.
My take A strong default when three engines are enough. If your buyers use Perplexity or Claude, price the add-ons before you compare it with the rest. Our Peec AI alternatives guide goes deeper.
5. Otterly.AI
Best for Solo marketers and small teams that want the lowest monthly price.
Otterly.AI tracks how your brand appears in AI search and adds recommendations, a GEO audit and a crawlability audit. Its entry plan is the cheapest monthly-billed plan in this guide.
- EnginesChatGPT, Google AI Overviews, Perplexity and Copilot are included. AI Mode and Gemini are $9 a month each on Lite, Claude $29. Pricing page
- Beyond trackingAI search optimization recommendations, a GEO audit and a crawlability audit. API, MCP and Agent Analytics start on Standard.
- PricingLite $29 a month for 15 prompts, Standard $189 for 100, Premium $489 for 400, or 15% less billed yearly.
- Free optionA free trial for new users.
My take The cheapest way to start, with Perplexity included. 15 prompts goes fast, so most B2B teams end up on Standard.
6. AthenaHQ
Best for Teams that want a free start, then agents that act on what they find.
AthenaHQ pitches itself on action on AI search: tracking first, then a content optimization agent and on-page and off-page actions to close the gaps it finds.
- EnginesThe free Essential plan covers ChatGPT, Perplexity, AI Overviews, Gemini and Copilot. Starter covers 11, adding AI Mode, Claude, Grok, DeepSeek, Meta AI and Mistral.
- Beyond trackingA content optimization agent, on-page and off-page actions, robots.txt and llms.txt controls, and GA4 and Search Console links.
- PricingEssential is free with 300 credits. Starter is $295 a month with 3,600 credits, where 1 credit is 1 AI response. API access and extra credits cost more.
- Free optionThe free Essential plan, with unlimited users.
My take The only tracker here with a real free plan. Credits make the paid cost hard to predict, so estimate your monthly answers before upgrading.
7. Scrunch
Best for Teams that want monitoring plus fixes that make their site easier for AI to read.
Scrunch helps you monitor and improve your brand's visibility in AI search. Beyond tracking, it runs site audits, reports agent traffic and, on Enterprise, serves machine-readable pages to AI agents.
- EnginesCore tracks ChatGPT, Perplexity, Google AI Overviews and Copilot. Enterprise covers 9, adding Claude, Gemini, Meta AI, AI Mode and Grok. Pricing page
- Beyond trackingSite audits, agent traffic, and its Agent Experience Platform on Enterprise.
- PricingCore $250 a month for 125 prompts, 5,000 responses, 5 site audits and 5 users. Enterprise is custom.
- Free optionA 7-day free trial.
My take Worth a look if making your site readable to AI agents matters as much as tracking. Four engines on Core is on the low side for the price.
8. SE Visible
Best for Brands and agencies that want lots of prompts on the main engines at a low price.
SE Visible is SE Ranking's standalone tool, an AI visibility tool made to empower brands. SE Ranking also sells an AI search toolkit inside its SEO plans, if you'd rather keep everything in one place.
- EnginesChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, AI Mode and AI Overviews on every plan. Claude is planned but not supported yet.
- Beyond trackingAI sources, prompt research, competitor analysis and a brand dashboard, refreshed daily. Query fan-out and sentiment are listed as coming soon.
- PricingBasic from $99 a month for 200 prompts, Core $189 for 450, Plus $355 for 1,000, or 20% less billed yearly.
- Free optionA 10-day free trial.
My take 200 prompts with Perplexity included is a lot for $99. It covers fewer countries and features than the bigger tools, so check your market first.
9. Rankscale
Best for Agencies and teams that want every engine without paying per model.
Rankscale includes every engine it tracks on every plan, and it now also supports Meta Muse Spark. It prices by credits rather than prompts.
- EnginesChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, Claude, DeepSeek, Mistral, Grok, Copilot and more, on every plan. Pricing page
- Beyond trackingPage audits, query fan-out, prompt research, local results and shopping analysis. REST API from Pro+.
- PricingEssentials is $204 a year, billed yearly only. Pro is $99 a month for 1,200 credits, up to 4,800 answers, and Growth is $385.
- Free optionA 7-day free trial of Pro.
My take The widest engine coverage for the money. Credits run down faster as you add engines, so watch usage in the first month.
10. LLMrefs
Best for SEOs who think in keywords and want one flat price for every engine.
LLMrefs tells you to track keywords, not prompts. You enter keywords, it writes the prompts, and it tracks citations across every engine it supports for one price.
- EnginesChatGPT, Google AI Overviews, AI Mode, Gemini, Perplexity, Claude, Grok, Copilot, Meta AI and DeepSeek, with no extra fees.
- Beyond trackingCitation tracking, monthly prompt-volume estimates, geo-targeting and free tools such as an llms.txt generator.
- PricingOne All in One plan at $79 a month for 500 prompts, marked as a limited-time price, with unlimited team members and projects.
- Free optionA 7-day free trial.
My take The most prompts and engines per dollar in this list. Reports refresh weekly, not daily, which is fine for trends but slow around a launch.
11. Fourward AI visibility check
Best for Finding out why AI doesn't name you, free, in under a minute.
Every tool above answers one question: does AI mention you? Most SaaS teams already suspect the answer is no. I built this check to answer the next question, which is why.
You enter your domain and it runs 30 checks on what AI engines can read about your site, then gives one score out of 100 across five areas:
- AI crawler accessWhether the crawlers behind ChatGPT search, Perplexity, Gemini, Copilot and Claude are allowed in, and whether your sitemap is reachable.
- Homepage signalsTitle, description, headings, depth of copy and social tags.
- Structured dataOrganization, product and FAQ markup that tells machines who you are.
- Entity and authorityWhether Wikidata and Wikipedia know you, and which profiles link to you.
- AI-ready contentPricing, customer proof, docs, comparison pages and llms.txt.
It doesn't track prompts over time, so it won't replace any tool above. Use it before you buy one, together with our free AI crawler checker.
My take Run it first. If crawlers are blocked or AI engines don't know who you are, every tracker will show you the same zero each day. Run the free check.
What the entry plans cost
What the cheapest paid plan buys, from lowest to highest price. Prices are monthly in US dollars unless noted, as published on 20 October 2026.
| Tool | Entry plan | Price | Tracking included | Engines |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Rankscale | Essentials | $204 a year, billed yearly | Credits | All it tracks |
| Otterly.AI | Lite | $29 | 15 prompts | 4, more as add-ons |
| Ahrefs | Custom prompts, Lite | $50 | 5 prompts, 150 checks | Choose per prompt |
| LLMrefs | All in One | $79 | 500 prompts, weekly | 10 |
| Peec AI | Starter | $95 | 50 prompts, daily | 3 you choose |
| SE Visible | Basic | $99 | 200 prompts, daily | 5 |
| Semrush | AI Visibility Toolkit | $99 per domain, billed annually | 25 prompts, daily | 4 |
| Scrunch | Core | $250 | 125 prompts | 4 |
| AthenaHQ | Starter | $295 | 3,600 credits | 11 |
| Profound | Enterprise | Custom | Tailored | Up to 9 |
The sticker price isn't always the real price. AthenaHQ and Rankscale run on credits and Ahrefs' custom prompts on checks, so each extra engine uses them faster. Peec AI and Otterly.AI charge per extra engine, and Scrunch saves its extra engines for Enterprise.
Compare tools on price per prompt and engines included, not the headline price. LLMrefs and SE Visible give the most prompts per dollar. Rankscale has the most engines without add-ons.
Free check. 30 checks, one score out of 100, under a minute.
How to choose an AI visibility tool
Start with what you already pay for, the engines your buyers use and how many questions you need to track.
| Your situation | Start with | Why |
|---|---|---|
| You've never checked whether AI can read your site | Fourward AI visibility check | Free, and it shows the blockers first |
| Your team lives in Semrush or Ahrefs | Their AI add-on | Same login, same data |
| You want to start free | AthenaHQ | Free Essential plan, five engines |
| You want the lowest monthly-billed price | Otterly.AI | From $29, Perplexity included |
| You want many prompts on a small budget | SE Visible or LLMrefs | 200 prompts for $99, or 500 for $79 |
| You need Perplexity and Claude without add-ons | Rankscale or LLMrefs | Every engine on every plan |
| You need agents and enterprise controls | Profound | Agents, Agent Analytics and SOC 2 |
How to set one up in your first week
- Write 20 to 50 buying questions. Use the words customers use on sales calls, such as "best X for Y" and "X vs Y", not your own taglines.
- Add three to five competitors. Share of voice only makes sense next to the brands buyers compare you with.
- Pick the engines your buyers use. For most B2B buyers that means ChatGPT and Google's AI answers first, then Perplexity, Gemini and Copilot.
- Read the citations, not just the score. The sites AI quotes for your category are where you need to be mentioned next.
- Give the fixes an owner. If nobody fixes crawler access, pages and mentions, the chart won't move.
A cheap tracker with someone fixing the gaps beats an expensive dashboard nobody acts on.
A full SEO, AEO and GEO audit, plus 30 minutes with our team to walk you through it.
FAQs
What is the best AI visibility tool?
For enterprise teams, Profound is the most complete. If you already use Semrush or Ahrefs, their AI add-ons are the easiest start. For a dedicated tracker, Peec AI has the clearest plans and Rankscale covers the most engines. On a small budget, look at Otterly.AI, LLMrefs or AthenaHQ's free plan.
What does an AI visibility tool measure?
It asks AI engines the prompts you choose on a schedule and reports how often your brand is mentioned, your share of voice against competitors, which pages the AI cites as sources, and your position and sentiment in each answer.
How much do AI visibility tools cost?
Monthly-billed entry plans run from $29 (Otterly.AI) to $295 (AthenaHQ Starter). Rankscale's yearly-only Essentials plan is $204 a year. Profound is custom-priced for brands, and AthenaHQ has a free plan.
Is there a free AI visibility tool?
AthenaHQ has a free Essential plan that tracks five engines. Ahrefs has a free AI visibility checker with a limited preview. Fourward's free AI visibility check doesn't track prompts, but it shows why AI engines can't read or name your brand.
Which AI engines should I track?
Track the ones your buyers use. For most B2B teams that's ChatGPT and Google's AI Overviews and AI Mode first, then Perplexity, Gemini and Copilot. Add Claude if your buyers are technical.
Is AI visibility the same as GEO or AEO?
They're closely linked. GEO (generative engine optimization) and AEO (answer engine optimization) are the work of getting named in AI answers. AI visibility is the result you measure, and these tools are how you measure it.
